When a chart is marked as coded, DeepMed groups it into its DRG from the selected codes and the encounter details on file. A rules-based grouper assigns the DRG - never a language model - and your DRG specialist reviews it before the chart is locked for billing.
AI agents do the reading. A deterministic grouper does the grouping. Your team makes every decision that counts.
Coding suggestions arrive with the passage behind them, and the encounter details the documents state are pre-filled with the exact excerpt, marked found by AI.
The DRG comes from the scheme's own logic, applied rule by rule to the approved codes and facts. The same inputs always give the same DRG.
A DRG specialist accepts or rejects each result with a reason, and the DRG becomes final only when the chart is locked for billing.
Six steps from the doctor's words to a coded, audited and grouped chart, with people reviewing the results along the way.
Dictate or record the consultation with consent; the doctor approves the draft.
Exports PDF, JSON or FHIR R4Scans become text, and identifiers are masked before any AI sees them.
Suggested codes arrive with the passage behind them, for the coder to accept.
A second AI pass scores the coding and proposes changes for the auditor.
Documentation gaps become neutral, non-leading physician queries.
A rules-based grouper assigns the DRG, final when the chart is locked.
DRG grouping follows the coding, audit and CDI work your team already does. It never reopens them, and they never wait for it.
The DRG is grouped from the chart's selected codes and nothing else. AI suggestions, audit proposals nobody accepted and physician responses not yet reconciled never reach the grouper.
Admission and discharge dates, age, sex, separation mode and care type - and, where the scheme asks for them, admission weight, gestational age or ventilation hours. Agentic AI pre-fills what the documents state, with the excerpt, for the coder to confirm.
Every value records its source. Unknown and Not applicable are recorded as such - nothing is defaulted or guessed.
When something is missing, the chart says what, why the scheme needs it, who can resolve it and where. Coding is never blocked - only grouping waits, and it starts by itself once the last item is resolved.
Unclear clinical documentation goes to CDI as a neutral query that never mentions the DRG, a weight or reimbursement.
The grouper receives structured codes and facts only - no names, no document text, no date of birth. Each answer is kept as a permanent record with its exact inputs, the rules it applied, and its edits and warnings.
Suggested DRG: the chart's DRG specialist - or its coder, while none is assigned - accepts the result or rejects it with a reason. Auto DRG: a clean result from a validated grouper is accepted for you, and a person's rejection is never overridden. No DRG: the chart is not grouped.
Any accepted change to the grouping inputs - a code, an onset indicator, a procedure date, an encounter detail, the scheme or its version - marks the accepted DRG as outdated and groups the chart again. While the audit or CDI is still open, an accepted DRG is shown as provisional.
Locking the chart makes the accepted DRG final, with its inputs, rules and answer preserved exactly as they were. A locked chart is never regrouped; reopening it takes a supervisor and a reason.
The DRG tab sits beside the codes. It shows where the chart stands, the result, the rules behind it and what is still needed - and compares any two calculations so you can see what changed between them.
Illustration - a fictional chart.
Each account chooses its diagnosis codes, procedure codes and DRG, each with its version, and every chart keeps its own. Codes are never translated from one classification to another.
United States · ICD-10-CM / ICD-10-PCS
Built from the CMS grouper and its data, with the Medicare Code Editor v44 edits shown as warnings. It matched the official CMS grouper on 512,938 test claims, field for field.
Canada · ICD-10-CA / CCI
Built from the CIHI CMG+ directory, including entry code, anaesthetic technique and intervention attributes, and checked on 78,402 cases drawn from it. Where the directory leaves a point open, the rule records the interpretation and why.
Australia · ICD-10-AM / ACHI
Connect your licensed AR-DRG grouper through the DeepMed grouper interface. Built-in AR-DRG V12.0 rules are in development and are not used to assign a DRG.
Properties of how DRG grouping is put together, not promises in a policy.
DeepMed assigns and records the DRG. It does not estimate, map or calculate reimbursement, and never shows a weight without its source.
A documentation question raised for the DRG goes through CDI and never mentions the DRG, a weight or reimbursement.
Only structured codes and facts are sent - no names, no document text, no date of birth, no chart or patient identifiers.
Every built-in rule cites its source, and every calculation names the exact rules file that grouped it.
Auto DRG accepts results only from a grouper an administrator has validated against reference cases.
DRG Specialist sits beside Coder, Auditor and CDI Specialist, with its own work list - and seeing a DRG grants no right to change codes.
DeepMed talks to every grouper through one small interface - an HTTP service or a command-line program. An administrator tests it, loads the details each version requires, and marks it validated once it agrees with the licensor's reference cases.
